I know that i can get my free credit report once a year, but there are like 3 reporting agencies to chose from. Which of those agencies is most accurate, and gives out the most info? I want one, to show all the negatives thing i might have in order for me to fix them, if there are any.

This is the most used for scores.
As far as the big three, you need to get one from each. Each can contain something different. Creditors are contracted out to these agencies. Sometimes they are not contracted to all three. They might report to one but not the other two. ALWAYS CHECK ALL 3 REPORTS!!!!!

We were awarded a civil judgement signed by a judge and filed with our local courts in Jackson County MO for $100,000. The defendant never paid this amount and we would like for this to show up on his credit report. I have been told unpaid civil judgements can be included in the personal section of a credit report but I am unable to find out how to get the credit bureaus to acknowledge this judgement and show it on his credit report. Can anyone tell me how to get this debt on his credit report?

The credit bureaus routinely check these public records, so they will likely find it, if they haven’t already.

I recently got a Household Bank credit card in order to help build up my credit score. I have only used the card for small purchases and have paid off the balances for 2 months (the amount of time I’ve had the card) but no payments have shown up on my credit report as of yet. I was under the impression that Household Bank reported to the credit bureaus every month. Does anyone know when the payments might show up?

Best reply by Mark:

since the account is so new, it may take up to 3 months for it to show up on your report. Household Bank is HSBC, and they, like many other banks, report monthly to the three credit reporting agencies. Give it some time and look again, it will show up unless they have your information wrong, such as your social or name. If you don’t see it by the next billing cycle, I would call them and ask.

Marla, you obviously don’t know what you are talking about. If that were the case, then why do we emphasize so much on getting a good credit history? So, basically an 18 year old will have perfect credit because theres no deragatory information reported about them? I think you’ve lost it…Positive credit history plays a major role, and accounts are reported Monthly, and all types of activity is reported such as payments, balance, etc.

There are a few items which have been reaged by a collections agency and they cannot do that. The SOL has passed and they should be removed from my credit report. Also, when you view your credit report where is the “date of last activity”? All I see is the open date and last reported date. The last reported date can’t possibly be the date to go by because then the companies can stay on your credit report forever. I have never had problems about stuff dropping off before but Capital One refuses to drop off and the three different collection agencies (for one card mind you) keep reporting a new date opened. This is ridiculous. How can I get them off? It has been 8 years now and they are still on there.

Best reply by Glennroid:

Anything you dispute has to be in writing. Call the credit bureau or go to their website to get instructions. You’ll need to write a letter with copies of all of the pertinent info. Generally they’ll review it and make a decision within 30 days. Good luck!

I wanted to get information on what your credit report looks like after filing ch 7 bk. Does it still list all your accounts with the balances just with discharged on each, or is your credit report blank with just the bk on it?

Best reply by Sparkles:

Believe me, it is not blank.

A Chapter 7 bankrutpcy may display on your credit for 10 years from the date of filing. Chapter 13 may stay for 10 yeas also, but it is customary for those to be removed after 7 years.

Seven to ten years from the date of discharge.

All discharged bankruptcies whether a state or federal filing remain on a CR for 10 years. A dismissed chapter 13 remains for 7 years, a dismissed chapter 7 remains for 10 years.

Chapt.7-11-12 will remain for ten years. A chapter 13 will remain for seven years if successfully completed, for 10 years if dismissed.

Ten (10) years for a discharged chapter 7 or 13. Seven (7) years for a dismissed chapter 13, ten (10) years for a dismissed chapter 7.

Although it is true that the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act does provide that bankruptcy entries will remain for 10 years, there are some creditors that will only leave a chapter 13 bankruptcy on your record for 7, rather than 10 years. They do this to encourage people to pay part of their debts rather than discharge it all under a chapter 7. More importantly, the effect of bankruptcy on one’s ability to get credit is vastly overstated. The key to getting the credit you need has far more to do with the amount of present income you have rather than any negatives on your credit report. In short, if you have good present income, the creditors will look past your credit report to your wallet in the sense that it is possible, even with a bankruptcy on one’s record, to get credit for cars and new credit cards as soon as you are discharged in a chapter 7 (about four months after you file), and after a year or so, you can even get a mortgage on a house. They may not give you the best rate, but if you have good present income, even a person with a bankruptcy on their record can get the credit they want in almost all cases.

You will not qualify for a FHA until a chapter 7 has be discharged for 2 years. A chapter 13, you will only have to wait a minimum of 1 year from filing date.
